Professor Dr. M. Rakib Uddin 

Professor Dr. M. Rakib Uddin, born on 1^st of March 1953 in a Reputed Muslim Family under the District of Comilla, Bangladesh. Appearing in School final examination in 1968 and Higher Secondary in 1971, he got admission to the University of Dhaka for graduation with Honor^’s in Geology and Post Graduation in the same subject during 1975 and 1976 respectively. Later on he had been to India for Higher Studies enjoying Government of India Scholarship through Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) in 1980. He obtained both the Degrees M.Phil in Geomorphology in 1981 and Ph.D in Environmental Geo-Science in 1984 from the Department of Geology, University of Poona, India.

 

• Professor Rakib has depicted himself as a teacher, researcher and administrator in his Professional carrier for the last 34 years. After completion of higher academic degree (Ph. D) he joined directly as Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology & Mining, at the University of Rajshahi in 1985 and enhanced at the rank of Associate Professor in 1992. Later on, he was promoted as Professor in 1999 in the same Department and administered the Department as a Chairman since 2000-2001. Subsequently, Dr. Rakib shifted from Rajshahi University to Khulna University by the end of 2001 where he also chaired as Head of the Environmental Science Discipline for more than five years (2001-2006). He was the Dean of the Life Science School (Faculty) since 2007-2009 in Khulna University. Professor Rakib got retirement on 28^th February, 2018. After his retirement, he was appointed as Dean of the Faculty Modern Science at Leading University on 7^th January, 2019 and continued upto 30^th June, 2021.

 

• During the tenure of teaching at Rajshahi University almost 17 years, Dr. Rakib had a significant contribution in various fields of Geology. He had a good contribution in different branches under the fields of Geology like Geomorphology, Sedimentology, and Groundwater Geology, study of Neo-tectonics and Environmental science within Bengal Basin of Bangladesh and about surrounding Territories of India. While teaching in Rajshahi University, he joined a lot of field trips in both Plain Land and Hilly Regions of Bangladesh and on the Deccan Volcanic Province of Western India.

 

• Rakib also took part multiple Geo-science Seminars and Symposia in both National and International Programs. He contributed number of geological research articles in many conferences, and visited number of Indian Universities namely M S University, Baroda (1988, 89); North Bengal University Siliguri (1988, 99); University of Poona (1990). Maharastra; Hill View University, Shillong (1992) University of Calcutta (1993, 2001) University of Delhi(1993 ,1997); Joypur University, Rajasthan (1995, 1997); Anna University, Madras (1997) and Barkatallah University, Bhupal (2003), Shivaji University, Kolhapur (2010), and University of Pune, Maharastra (2012,2015).

 

• Professor Dr. M. Rakib Uddin successfully guided number of graduate and Post graduate students for their dissertation both in Geology and Environmental Science and published a number of scientific papers in various Journals both in and abroad. Besides that, he is life member of some reputed Journals in Bangladesh and in India also.
